Food Contamination an issue of centralized industrial food

The recent Salmonella outbreak and specifically the ongoing issues of harmful contaminants in our food and water are one of the ways the drawbacks of our industrial, globalized food system culminates into serious public health issues. Food safety is a very contentious issue for those of us that understand the value of whole and raw food and the ways in which the scale of our food system does not make for fresh, alive, highly nutritious food. Raw and whole food often sacrificed for sterile safety, but as we see time again processing and pasteurization is often a sloppy band-aid to safety issues or even the direct cause of contamination. I am very interested in this problem and address it over at Civil Eats today. Check it out here (and make time for some of the other great articles found on this very nice blog)
